Juan Du
Dance

Juan Du boasts 27 years of dance experience, with 12 years dedicated to South Asian dance. As a classically trained Indian Kathak dancer (North Indian classical dance) under the Guru-shishya parampara (master-disciple tradition), she is the first Chinese dancer invited to perform at the New York Kathak Festival. In 2013, she began her Kathak training at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Embassy of India,Beijing. Beyond Kathak, Du Juan also studies and performs other South Asian dance forms, such as Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Tagore Dance, Garba, and Bhangra.
In 2016, she relocated to New Delhi, India, to study under the Lucknow gharana artist Guru Pradipto Kumar Chakraborty (a senior disciple of Kathak legend Jai Kishan Maharaj). DuJuan has performed solo and duet pieces on renowned stages across India, the UK, China, and the United States, including the University of Oxford. Over the past 12 years, she has successfully organized and participated in over 100 South Asian dance and cultural events, including performances, seminars, and cultural lectures. Furthermore, driven by a strong interest in cross-cultural communication, she holds a Master's degree in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
